چکیده
(a) Prove that L is not regular. (b) Prove that L cannot be recognized in real time by a one-counter machine, i.e., i. M reads its input from left to right with no -transitions. ii. M has a finite set of states Q. At each step it may update its state and may increment or decrement its counter by any integer. iii. M ’s only dependence on the current value of its counter is whether or not it is zero; thus its transition function takes the form δ : Q×Σ×{zero, nonzero} → Q× Z where Z denotes the integers. iv. M accepts the input if the counter is zero and/or its final state is in some accepting subset Qaccept ⊆ Q. (c) Prove that L is not context-free.

We will give partial credit if you present your thinking in a clear way we can understand (and your thinking is at least partially correct), but otherwise not. If you model a problem using a tool that requires significant computation, it is best to first give the model explicitly and indicate how you will use the results of the computation to determine the final answer. This approach will help ...
متن کاملMath 110: Linear Algebra Practice Midterm #2
∗Note The theorems in sections 5.1 and 5.2 each have two versions, one stated in terms of linear operators, one in terms of matrices. The book states most of them in terms of linear operators, whilst in the lecture notes, they are mostly stated in terms of matrices. For example, compare Theorem 5.5 and its corollary in the book with Theorem 5 and its corollary in the lecture notes; also compare...
متن کاملWave propagation theory in offshore applications
A frequency-wavenumber-domain formulation is presented in this paper for calculation of the Green's functions and wave propagation modes in a stratified fluid body underlain by a layered viscoelastic soil medium. The Green's functions define the solid and fluid displacements and fluid pressures due to uniform disk loads acting in either the soil or fluid media. The solution is in the frequency ...
متن کاملProblem Set 3 Midterm Exam
Solutions must be submitted at beginning of class on Wednesday, March 3, 2004. This is an open-book exam. Handwritten answers are fine as long as they are legible and organized. Please show all work. I've tried to leave space on this handout for your solutions. The midterm is worth 15% of your total grade.
متن کاملImproving performance in quantum mechanics with explicit incentives to correct mistakes
An earlier investigation found that the performance of advanced students in a quantum mechanics course did not automatically improve from midterm to final exam on identical problems even when they were provided the correct solutions and their own graded exams. Here, we describe a study, which extended over four years, in which upper-level undergraduate students in a quantum physics course were ...
